Suicide Prevention Week
Monday, September 9, 2013 to Saturday, September 14, 2013 All Day
Counseling & Disability Services will sponsor a visual display entitled “Don’t Sit in Silence” for National Suicide Prevention week. On September 9, 105 empty chairs will be placed on the campus mall to represent the number of suicides that occur in the United States each day. On the chairs will be messages of hope, crisis and suicide hotline numbers, warning signs of suicide and resources for seeking help.
The purpose of the campaign is to encourage those silently suffering from depression to remember that they are not alone, and to feel empowered to seek help. Additionally, we want to encourage members of the UST community to speak up and reach out to someone they know who might be in distress. We will have a resource table on the mall on September 9. We will also have a resource table at the club fair on September 12.
