UST Volleyball Comes Up Short

Kirsten KubicekThe University of St. Thomas women’s volleyball team lost 2-3 against Southwestern Assemblies of God with sets 18-25, 25-21, 25-14, 17-25 and 10-15 on Oct. 6.

The Celts had a rough start to the match totaling only 10 kills on 44 attempts and hitting -.045 in the first set of the day. The team was able to come back in the remaining four sets swinging hard with a total of 62 kills.

Junior outside hitter Kirsten Kubicek had a double-double with 17 kills and 21 digs on the day.  Stephanie Biediger also added 21 kills. Brittany Weiler dished out 51 assists, four kills, three digs and two blocks. Shirley Paul led the defensive effort with 21 digs on the match.

The Celts’ next match is an away game against conference opponent Texas Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12.
