Montelongo Earns ACPA Award
Angie MontelongoAngie Montelongo, University of St. Thomas director of Student Activities, will be recognized as a Diamond Honoree with the American College Personnel Association Educational Leadership Foundation. She will receive the award at a conference in Las Vegas in March with 21 other student affairs professionals from across the country.

“Several mentors and many outstanding professionals have received this award in the past, and I am truly humbled and grateful to receive this award,” Montelongo said. “To be placed in the same category with so many great practitioners and researchers seems a bit surreal, but this only motivates me to keep doing the good work I do every day in my role at UST.”   

Montelongo has served ACPA through the Commission for Administrative Leadership as a directorate member and chair of the Convention Showcase Committee. She has served as placement outreach chair for ACPA’s Latin@ Network. She continues to sharpen her skills through professional participation in the ACPA Donna M. Bourassa Mid-Level Manger Leadership Institute and the Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators Retention Conference.

Both Dr. Ricardo Montelongo, director for Student Success, and Dr. Steve Sutton, former UST vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, have been honored in the past. Ricardo, Montelongo’s husband, said he may be a little biased, but he is proud of her work with college students and leadership efforts within ACPA and other student affairs organizations.

“An institution with student affairs professionals with ACPA Diamond Honorees is well received among the student affairs and higher education community,” Ricardo said.

The Commission for Administrative Leadership supports ACPA and the foundation by identifying at least one Diamond Honoree per year.

“Angie is being recognized for her contributions to the profession of student affairs specifically through her work with student leaders, housing and residential life, and orientation,” Patricia McKinley, vice president of Student Affairs, said. “As a part of this honor, we seek to raise funds, in her name, which will continue to provide support for scholarship, students and the profession through ACPA’s foundation. Contributions to this fund will provide an additional way to honor Angie’s commitment to students and her leadership in student affairs.”

ACPA is the national organization for Student Affairs staff. Founded in 1994, the ACPA Educational Leadership Foundation, a non-profit organization, is "to enhance the student affairs profession and to generate and disseminate knowledge of college students at all levels within higher education.” Visit the foundation website order to make a gift of $20, $25, $50 or more.
