Sign Up for ‘Day of Service’ Projects
University President Dr. Robert Ivany invites the UST family to roll up their sleeves for the President’s Day of Service from 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 16. For the ninth year, the President’s Day of Service offers a wide range of service projects. All Celts — students, alumni, faculty, staff and families – will have the chance to work side-by-side and support the University without leaving campus.
Angie Montelongo, director of Student Activities, looks forward to this tradition every year.
“Community service is an important part of who we are as an institution,” Montelongo said. “This tradition allows students to participate in service projects on campus, thus giving back to UST.”
When Ivany began at UST in 2004, he founded this day to give all
those who treasure UST the opportunity to embrace the St. Thomas mission of educating leaders of faith and character. In its ninth year, the President’s Day of Service will bring everyone together in acts of service all over campus from painting to planting.
The day will begin at 8 a.m. with a free breakfast with Ivany in Crooker Center, and projects begin at 9 a.m.
Service projects include:
• UST Best Buddies Sports Camp for PDS
The St. Thomas Best Buddies Chapter will be collaborating
with UST's students and athletes to provide a fun, energetic
and informative experience for adults with intellectual and
developmental disabilities. The activities include basketball
and sports games. Athletes and volunteers will instruct the
buddies and participate in the event. Volunteers and athletes
must be comfortable working with persons with disabilities,
both intellectual and physical.
• Care Packages for Texas Children’s Hospital
Volunteers will make care packages and cards for children at
the Texas Children’s Hospital.
• Project Linus
Volunteers will make fleece blankets for area fire departments
to give to critically ill children.
Volunteers will paint in the Student Affairs office.
Volunteer will plant flowers outside the new Human Resources
office across from Moran Center Parking Garage.
• Beautification of UST:
Volunteers will do various projects such as cleaning the
University Seal, house signs, golf carts and the benches
• Thank You Cards
