Menís Basketball: All They Do is Win
UST Men's BasketballThe University of St. Thomas men’s basketball team beat Paul Quinn College, 75-66, on Feb. 18. The Celts are 21-6 for the season and will definitely play in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament in March.
UST shot 32 percent in the first half and were up 27-25 at the break. The 64 percent shooting in the second half sealed the deal for the Celts to get another win on the road. Travis Lampley, who is still leading the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics Division I in assists with 9.39 per game, had 14 points and nine assists. Also, Lampley’s high-scoring teammates are always crashing the boards. Caleb Williams had 20 points, Bryan Kaase had 16, and Deric Dudley added 10.
The Paul Quinn Tigers were averaging more than 90 points a game, but have an overall record of only 11-16 and are now ineligible for post-season play. The Tigers’ Aaron McCuin led all scorers with 22 points and had 13 rebounds.
St. Thomas will play Huston-Tillotson University on Feb. 21 in Austin, Texas. The last home game of the year is on Feb. 23 versus Louisiana State University-Shreveport. As a part of Homecoming weekend, seniors Lampley, Williams, Barrett Lauer, Adrian Morales and Andrew Graves will be honored before the game at 4 p.m.
