UST Clarinet Professor Featured at International Clarinet Festival

Photo: Richard NunemakerUniversity of St. Thomas clarinet professor, Richard Nunemaker, has been selected as a featured soloist for the International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest this August. The convention will take place August 3-7 at California State University – Northridge.

Nunemaker will perform the world premiere of Houston composer Arthur Gottshalk’s composition “The Kaleidoscopic Pocket Hockets Boogalloo” for eight bass clarinets and two contra bass clarinets. He will also perform M. William Karlins’ “Improvisations on ‘Lines Where Beauty Lingers’” for solo bass clarinet, commissioned and recorded by Nunemaker in 2003.

In addition to teaching clarinet at UST, Nunemaker is a symphony musician, concert soloist, recording artist, producer, educator and author. He played clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone with the Houston Symphony Orchestra from 1967-2008 and is president of the Houston Composers Alliance.
