Menís Soccer Defeats Texas Wesleyan, Pushes Winning Streak to Three
10/18/2011
The second game of the home weekend brought the University of St. Thomas men’s soccer team to face a tough Texas Wesleyan squad at Houston Amateur Sports Park on Sunday, Oct. 15 in a Red River Athletic Conference match. The Celts had won four of their previous five games, while the Rams of TWU had won four of six.

UST wasted no time, scoring a beautiful goal in the opening minute of play. Nick Boras broke through the TWU defense and layed a ball across the top of the box for Rafael Bustos who had a clinical finish to beat the Rams’ goalkeeper.

Bustos struck again in the 24th minute after heading a cross from senior Omar Alonso into the back of the net.

The strong start was too much for TWU to recover from. UST controlled the first 45 minutes, but the game opened up in the second half. RRAC leading scorer Ivan Kovacevic put TWU back in the game in the 60th minute with a crafty free kick that beat UST goalkeeper Jason Taffet.

Delano Foster narrowly missed a chance to put the game out of reach late in the second half but the Celts held on for victory.
UST improved to 5-3 in RRAC play and 5-6-1 for the season.
