As a result of the successful completion of the two-year EmergencyImage: Caution Management for Higher Education grant last fall, UST established a new operating department: Emergency & Safety Services. The department’s strategic plan and program goals are below:

Mission
The mission of Emergency & Safety Services is to facilitate a comprehensive emergency management program at the University of St. Thomas. We are dedicated to providing a coordinated approach to natural or man-made emergency events.

Program Goals
Goal 1: Increase awareness and preparedness for students, parents,
            faculty and staff

Goal 2: Emphasize an all-hazards approach to planning
Goal 3: Enhance capabilities for responding to and recovering from
            disasters

Goal 4: Develop a strong emergency preparedness culture
Goal 5: Adapt to an ever changing environment

Chris Barry and Karen Burns are co-directors of the department. Email them at: safety@stthom.edu.

Also, visit the emergency preparedness website, stthom.edu/READY, for information and guides on inclement weather, campus and personal safety, and suspicious situations. Resources are available in both English and Spanish.
