Music Preparatory School Hosts Summer Camps
The University of St. Thomas Music Preparatory School is offering three music camps for grades three through 12 this summer.
A Summer Guitar Camp is being offered from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., July 11-15. The week-long workshop will include instruction for all levels and styles of acoustic guitar, electric guitar and electric bass, including rock, blues, jazz, acoustic, classical and songwriting. Instruction is catered to the student’s personal style, level of experience and musical goals in a non-competitive and supportive environment. The cost is $165 per camper and a $25 deposit is due by July 4.
The 23rd annual Houston Piano Day Camp will take place from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., June 20-24. The camp will include group and individual piano instruction, hands-on experience with harpsichord, clavichord and organ, daily snacks, a final recital on the Steinway concert grand piano in Cullen Hall and an awards ceremony upon completion. The cost is $150 per camper and a $25 deposit is due by June 10.
The String Institute: Vivaldi & Venice will take place July 18-22. Students of all ages are invited to apply and the suggested level for violinists is Suzuki book 4 or higher. Advanced string players will rehearse and perform concertos for string orchestra by Venetian composer, Antonio Vivaldi. Students will view and discuss manuscripts and first editions, learn about Venetian culture and history, be exposed to the work of Vivaldi’s contemporaries and learn about his music’s influence on Johann Sebastian Bach. The cost is $225 per student and a $25 application fee is due by June 15.
