Amber Arceneaux-FrancisKicking off the new year in an impressive fashion, the University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team pummeled Northwood University, 93-54, on Jan. 3 in Jerabeck Gym. Five Celts scored in double figures to get the win.

Amber Arceneaux-Francis, who leads the Red River Athletic Conference in rebounds, commanded the court with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Maghen Lormand had 17 points, which makes this game her eighth game of the season to score 15 points or more. Her'shiira Boone-Rodgers, who is third in the RRAC in assists, shot for 11 points and dished out 10 assists. Gaby Guzman had her seventh double-digit point game of the season adding 12. Kirstin Lee rounded out the win with her first 12-point game.

“I was pretty pleased with the way we played from start to finish,” said Head Coach Mike Ricks. “We really got ourselves going from the tip and never let up.”

Next up, the Celts take a trip to play Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Jan. 5 in Waxahachie, Texas.

Ricks encourages his team to remain focused.

“We can’t allow ourselves to relax because we played well on Thursday – that’s in the past,” Ricks said. “We want to build on it, but Saturday is a brand new opportunity. We have to be ready to compete.”

After the road game in Waxahachie, the Celts return home to play Huston-Tillotson University on Jan. 8 in Jerabeck Gym. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. Fans can view the game live at psnsports.com.
