| Lady Celts Fall At Home to Assemblies of God |
The University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team lost to Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Monday night, 54-46.
After a strong start by the Celts, the Lady Lions from Southwestern fought their way back into the game to tie it up at halftime.
Rebounding was the difference in the second half, which saw the Lions out rebound the Celts by more than 20. Those second chance points and some clutch free throw shooting paved the way to victory for Southwestern.
Gaby Guzman led the way for the Celts with 20 points. Hershiira Boone-Rodgers returned to action after missing 2 games due to injury and chipped in with 8 points.
This loss brings the Lady Celts’ losing streak to eight and leaves them with an overall record of 5-12 and 3-9 in conference play.
Head coach Mike Ricks was pleased with his team’s effort despite the loss.
“The things we talked about doing during practice we saw tonight, with the exception of rebounding in the second half,” Ricks said. “It’s tough because we lost, but even in losing we did some positive things that will make us better in the long run.”
The Lady Celts will host the University of the Southwest on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
