| William Carey University Defeats Celts 5-1 |
The University of St. Thomas men’s soccer team lost to William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Saturday, Sept. 10. The No. 15 ranked William Carey proved to be too strong as they defeated the Celts, 5-1, bringing the Celts 0-2-0 on the season.
As they have done all season long, William Carey (4-0) started strong early in the game as Francois Navarro planted home an Alex Mallion assist in the tenth minute to put Carey up 1-0. Navarro struck again in the 19th minute to increase the Carey lead to 2-0.
The lead remained 2-0 until the 47th minute when Matheus Saroli scored the first of two goals to put Carey up 3-0. Saroli added another goal in the 67th minute and Navarro completed the hat trick with his seventh goal of the season in the 77th minute. The Crusaders had not allowed a goal in nearly 274 minutes before surrendering just their second goal of the season to Rafael Bustos in the 88th minute.
The Celts are back in action at home this weekend where they will face UT-Brownsville at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, and then play Oklahoma Christian at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18. Both matches will take place at the Houston Amateur Sports Park, 12131 Kirby Drive. Come out and support your Celts as they look for their first win of the 2011 campaign.
