| UST Raises Homelessness Awareness with National Sleepout |
In an effort to gain a deeper understanding of homelessness across the United States, the University of St. Thomas Social Justice Committee will host a National Sleepout event on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Members of the University of St. Thomas community and the Houston community are invited to bring their sleeping bags and spend the night on the roof of the Moran Center Parking Garage at West Alabama and Graustark.
National Sleepout Saturday is an annual event that aims to create appreciation, empathy, understanding and action through the shared experience of spending one night without a home. The event also raises awareness for National Hunger and Homelessness Week.
Participants are encouraged to bring the bare minimum for the Sleep Out event to best simulate living without the comforts of home. Tents, personal electronics and a abundance of snacks are strongly discouraged as the homeless often do not have the luxury of choosing when they will eat.
Recommended items include:
• sleeping bag
• notebook to document your experience.
