| Hahn, Smith Among 100 Remarkable Theology Professors |
University of St. Thomas’ Dr. Randall Smith, professor of theology, and Dr. Paul Hahn are familiar faces among 100 selected theology professors and scholars selected in a recent article, “100 Remarkable Professors & Scholars Theology Students Should Know About.”
Smith and Hahn were named among very prominent scholars including Princeton University’s Dr. Cornel West and the Rev. Francis Clooney, S.J., from the Harvard School of Divinity. They were also two of only three scholars selected from Houston.
The list was comprised of professors and scholars who have not only contributed to the body of theological knowledge with their research, but have also contributed to the preparation of a new generation of theologians. Each individual selected was recognized as a remarkable role model for current theology students who aim to become educators.
Smith, the Scanlan Foundation Chair in Theology, has been with UST for 10 years. His areas of research include moral theology, historical theology, sexual ethics and sin.
Hahn, now retired, was with UST for 21 years. His areas of research include scripture and world religions. He is a foremost source on comparative aspects between various religions.
The theology department at the University of St. Thomas boasts an active faculty that is prolific in research and publishing and has a strong commitment to service. As an essential component of the core curriculum, theology reinforces the Catholic identity of the University. The discipline of theology is indispensible for maintaining both the synthesis of knowledge and the dialogue of faith and reason that are the hallmarks of the Catholic Intellectual tradition.
