Large Crowd Greets Celts for Volleyball Scrimmage
VolleyballIn front of a solid preseason crowd, the University of St. Thomas volleyball team introduced the squad to a match-day atmosphere in a scrimmage against Lee College of Baytown, Texas on Aug. 17.

Led by sophomore Kylah Dias’ 11-kill effort, the Celts captured the match in three sets on Friday in Jerabeck Gym.

“It was great to get out and play,” Dias said. “We have been working hard in practice, and the coaches have done a great job of working with us and helping us improve our skills.”

Senior Lauren Curley added six kills for the night.  Junior Shirley Paul had 11 digs to lead the defense.

“It is great to get out and have a match like this in front of such a large crowd,” Head Coach Kallie Noble said.  “We have been working hard with two-a-days and getting ready for the season.  I think we have the pieces, and it is just a matter of putting it all together at the same time.”

The Lady Celts will open their 2012 season with first serve at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 at the Texas Wesleyan University Tournament, in Fort Worth, Texas, against Oklahoma Baptist.
