| Emily Sebo Signs with UST Women's Basketball Team |
Rosehill Christian School senior Emily Sebo signed a letter of intent to attend and play for the University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team, scheduled to begin its first season in 2011-12.
“It’s an opportunity to build something greater than myself, after four years leaving it better than I found it,” Sebo said of playing on the inaugural women’s basketball team.
Playing college basketball has been a life-long goal for Sebo, who said she was interested in UST upon hearing the university planned to start a team.
The recruiting process moved quickly, with UST Women’s Basketball Coach Mike Ricks visiting a Rosehill game not long after accepting the position of head women’s basketball coach in early February.
“I watched her play in February and we talked after the game,” Ricks said. “I felt right away she was someone we needed in our program. Character-wise and academically, Emily is somebody who will represent us well as we begin our program here.”
Sebo transferred to Rosehill prior to her junior year and immediately became a standout for the Lady Eagles, being voted District 7-3A Most Valuable Player after the season. She had a similarly productive senior year ranking second on the team in scoring (14.9 points per game), rebounding (6.9), assists (3.7) and steals (3.6) while shooting a team-high 46 percent. Sebo leaves Rosehill a two-time, first-team TAPPS 3A All-State selection and Academic All-State qualifier.
Sebo will receive athletic and academic scholarships from UST, at which she plans to study business.
“We have a long way to go toward building our final roster,” Ricks said. “We feel good about the people we’ve been able to sign and have on campus so far. We plan to host another open gym to give others a chance to be seen as well.”
