Caleb Kroll, a High School for the Visual and Performing Arts freshman, won the 9-10 grade piano division of the Texas Music Teacher’s Association competition on January 21. He performed a 10 minute memorized Handel and Haydn program and will advance to the state finals in Dallas in June.

Shreya Mandal, a sophomore from Stafford, Texas, received the top rating in the highest division of piano solo difficulty at the University Interscholastic League Piano Solo contest on February 18. She performed a memorized Debussy piano solo and will advance to the state competition this spring.

“It is wonderful to continue our high standard of musicianship in the Music Preparatory School as evidenced through the perseverance and love of music by these hard-working young people,” said Paul Krystofiak, director of the Music Preparatory School.

Building on the UST Music Department’s commitment to excellence in music education and community outreach, the University offers private instruction to pre-college music students and non-traditional hobbyists including study on all levels for all instruments and voice. Music theory, history and ensemble are also available.

Music camps, academies and seminars are planned for the summer 2012 season. Visit http://www.stthom.edu/mps for more information.
