9/4/2012
Photo: Beverly DenverThe Women in Business Forum, sponsored by the Center for Business Ethics, will feature Beverly Denver, publisher and executive editor of Houston Woman Magazine. Denver will discuss female entrepreneurs in her lecture, "The 5 Ws of an Inspired Leader" from 6:30-8 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Chelsea Grill, 4621 Montrose Blvd.

Denver is a professional journalist and publishing entrepreneur with more than 30 years experience in print media. She launched Houston Woman Magazine in March 2004 to “inform, inspire and connect successful women.” Denver holds a bachelor's in journalism and history from Louisiana Tech University and a master's in journalism from Louisiana State University.

Denver is a graduate of Leadership Houston and Leadership Texas, a recipient of numerous professional and community-service awards and recognized with the prestigious "Woman on the Move Award" by Texas Executive Women.

"Ms. Denver embodies excellence extraordinaire," said Dr. Michele Simms, director of the UST Center for Business Ethics in the Cameron School of Business. "We want to build the Women in Business Forum this year, and Ms. Denver was the first person I thought of to launch our 2012-2013 series. She is a role model, leader and one who inspires. I am delighted she will be joining us in September.”

In its second year, the WIB Forum provides opportunities for female business students to socialize with fellow classmates, network with professionals, share resources and meet outstanding female business leaders in Houston, including alumni from St. Thomas' graduate business programs.

"The WIB Forum has empowered me to develop my leadership skills and abilities," said Natalie Taylor, an MBA student and the WIB Forum coordinator. "Hearing the stories of how these women began their careers, the struggles and success, is motivating and inspiring."

The event is $15, which includes appetizers at the Chelsea Grill.  Students prepay for the event by contacting Michele Simms at simmsm@stthom.edu or 713-942-5918.
