UST Volleyball Splits Matches on Day One of Austin College Classic

Shirley PaulThe University of St. Thomas volleyball team broke even at the Austin College Classic Tournament, in Sherman, Texas, about 60 miles north of Dallas, on Sept. 7.

In the first match against Southwestern University, a NCAA Division III team, the Celts lost in three hard-fought sets 22-25, 18-25 and 23-25. Libero Shirley Paul lead the team with 26 digs, Reagan Creely added 11 kills, and Brittany Weiler dished out 30 assists.

Originally scheduled to play Dallas Christian College, the Celts were resilient in its second match against Howard Payne University. The team finished the day strong by winning in three sets 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15. Stephanie Biediger led all hitters with 12 kills. Weiler had a double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs. Paul added 28 digs to contribute to the team win.
