The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team
hit the road once again to challenge third-ranked Louisiana State University-Shreveport at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 in Shreveport, La. The fifth-ranked
Celts are trying to close out their five-game road trip with a win.
The team continued its successful run in January with an 83-77 win at Texas College on Jan. 19. Amber Arceneaux-Francis
led four Celts in double figures with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Hershiira Boone-Rodgers
and Gaby Guzman
added 17 apiece, and Emily Sebo
chipped in 12.
"Texas College is a tough place to get a win," Head Coach Mike Ricks said. "I'm happy with the way we handled the ups and downs of the game. I was also happy with our execution down the stretch. We showed a lot of poise and got great shots."
With no time to rest, the Celts traveled to Tyler, Texas to play Jarvis Christian College on Jan. 21. Although two Celts had double-doubles, the team had trouble on defense and lost, 67-54.
Arceneaux-Francis had 21 points and 11 rebounds. Guzman added 11 points, and Sebo contributed 10. Freshman Maghen Lormand
chipped in a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
"We have to defend better, especially when we aren't scoring," Ricks said. "We have to bear down and get stops. Then we need to execute on the offensive side of the ball. Give credit to Jarvis though. They played well."
