On-Campus Retreat Renews Spirit

Photo: DoveFellowship of Catholic University Students, Campus Ministry and Residence Life will come together to present Catholic Underground, a mini-retreat of praise and worship, at 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 in Guinan Hall.

Aimed at students across campus, this mini-retreat is designed to give students an opportunity to hang out and pray together. The event is open to people of all faiths, and facilitators hope that the time of praise and worship will be a unifying experience for all.

Yolanda Norman, director of Residence Life and Conference Housing, wants both the residents and commuters to come together for an evening of reflection and fun.

“I’m truly excited that FOCUS and Campus Ministry is bringing this great event right into the home of our residential students and focuses on bringing our whole community together to be in the presence of God,” she said. “It’s also great anytime I hear my residents invite commuter students into the halls to remind them about the activities happening on campus.”

The evening will kick off as the group cooks a community dinner together in the Guinan Kitchen. Afterward, the evening will continue with a time of praise and worship in the Guinan Conference Room, followed by games and fellowship until 11 p.m. in the Guinan Media Room.

During praise and worship, music will provide a prayerful atmosphere to allow participants to either sing praises or simply sit and reflect. Prayer teams are also available to pray with and over students who desire additional prayer.

Ana Alicia Lopez, Residence Life coordinator said the mini-retreat will help students unwind and dive deeper into prayer.

“Retreats are a great time to refresh, and we hope participants walk away feeling reenergized and ready to tackle the rest of the semester with a new strength,” Lopez said. “Ultimately, the goal is to allow others a chance to know God better and to rest in His love.”

Although the event is in the residence hall, commuters are welcome and will be able to sign in by presenting their UST ID.
