Men's Golf Earns First Tourney Victory
Men's Golf Wins First TournamentThe University of St. Thomas men's golf team earned its first tournament victory in the history of the young program on April 2 at The LeTourneau Spring Invitational at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas.

The Celts fired a final round 297 to make up the three-shot deficit they faced to start the day and edged out University of Texas at Tyler by two shots. Both Zach Cabra and James Rayner birdied the 17th hole while senior Sean Kennedy made a spectacular par save after hitting his second shot in the water. Kennedy’s shot turned out to be the difference in a hard-fought tournament by both teams.

Cabra played his final eight holes in 2-under par to earn his second individual title of the season. He finished at 141 for the tournament, edging out teammate Kennedy by one shot. Sophomore Jeff Swearingen shot 154 to finish tied for 18th place, and senior James Rayner was just one shot behind him at 155. Freshman Richard Le finished in a tie for 27th place with a two-day total of 157.

The Celts have a three-week break before teeing it up for the Red River Athletic Conference Championship. St. Thomas will host the RRAC Championship this year April 29-30 at Cypresswood Golf Club.
