Men's Soccer Wins RRAC Tournament Championship
11/12/2013

With a thrilling victory, the University of St. Thomas men's soccer team captured its first Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday night at the Houston Amateur Sports Park.

The Celts upset the University of Texas-Brownsville 3-0 in the championship matchup, earning a trip to the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament in December.  This will be the second trip to nationals for the Celts.

The Celts first goal came in the 36 minute from Irving Escobedo off an unassisted rebound from a corner kick. Chris Natera assisted Paulo Sacramento in the 50 minute for the second goal. The Celts final goal came from Jorge Contreras assisted by Jack Brett in the 51 minute.

Goalie Jason Taffet recorded three saves on the night and had his ninth shutout of the season.
