UST Menís Basketball Advances to NAIA National Tournament

Senior Bryan KaaseThe University of St. Thomas Men's basketball team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the second straight year. The 77th tournament will take place March 19 through 25 at the historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

Unseeded St. Thomas will play No. 8 Emmanuel (GA) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Office of Student Affairs will host a watch party for the game in the Council of Clubs Room in Crooker Center. The UST community is invited to watch the game live-streamed from the NAIA website and enjoy light refreshments.

St. Thomas finished 20-10 overall and 14-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference. Defending RRAC tournament champions, the Celts were second in the conference during the regular season before losing in the RRAC Tournament Championship 56-52 to No.15 Wiley College.  In the final poll for the season, UST finished ranked No. 25 in the country and was selected as an at-large for the NAIA National Tournament.

After losing four seniors last year the Celts were picked to finish 3rd in the Red River. After a difficult early season schedule, which included NCAA DI foes, Rice and the University of Houston, seniors Bryan KaaseNate McAnelly  and Henoc Jean led  St. Thomas to 15 wins in their last 18 games.
