Cool and Diverse

Forbes Magazine’s article, “Houston Tops Our List of America’s Coolest Cities,”gives Houston a nod for its strong theater scene, stylish downtown housing and youthful residents with employment options. Houston’s economy makes the city an attractive place to live and work. The Huffington Post recently published “Houston Surpasses New York and Los Angeles As ‘The Most Diverse In The Nation.’” Houston is a friendly and welcoming city, making ethnic diversity a strong part of its identity.

Houston is a dynamic, diverse and cosmopolitan metropolis of six million people — the fourth-largest city in the United States. With a thriving economy, Houston features opportunities for internships and employment in energy, health care, business, the arts and more. Houstonians also enjoy myriad opportunities for entertainment, culture and cuisine.

The University of St. Thomas is located adjacent to the Museum District, just down the street from the Texas Medical Center, a few miles from downtown and about five miles from the Galleria, an indoor shopping mall including more than 400 stores. There are many large complexes in Houston for companies like BP, Halliburton, Mustang Engineering, and ConocoPhillips. The Port of Houston exceeds 200 millions tons in volume of imports and exports each year. It is the busiest port in the nation in terms of foreign tonnage.

The Johnson Space Center is one of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) locations for astronaut training, research and mission control. Many of Houston’s scientists, engineers, and researchers are involved with the center’s operations. The Apollo Mission Control building is a national historic landmark. The Johnson Space Center offers tours of the facility.
