UST Launches New Augustine-Without-Walls Program
 Augustine Hall, the building that has housed the Augustine Living-Learning Community, will be demolished in the summer of 2009. But the heart of the Living-Learning Community, an intensive experience in the integration of faith, academics and life, will continue to beat in a program bearing a new name – Augustine-Without-Walls.
“The name signifies more than the removal of the residence’s brick exterior: the program will now be open to all UST students who want to share in Augustine events, which focus on integrating academic learning with faith convictions and real everyday life,” said Sister Paula Jean Miller, FSE, Augustine-Without-Walls Program director. “In Augustine-Without-Walls, students will be free to participate in those events which fit into their crowded schedules, while still striving to build a community of learners who want their academics linked with their faith and their lives as developing professionals.”
According to Sr. Paula Jean, changes to the program include:
- A Friday afternoon Coffee House at 1210 Colquitt that will provide faculty, students, staff, and administrators the opportunity to meet casually and personally, while discussing topics at the forefront of classroom and campus life. View the Coffee House flyer.
- Group excursions into the natural environs of Houston and into its Fine Arts that will continue to awaken UST students to the many treasures that lie just at the outer margins of our campus.
- Mentored experiences in baking and cooking that will be the “first act” for shared dinners, BBQ’s, movies with discussions or invited speakers.
“Prayer together will remain the connecting thread as students take time to celebrate the liturgical year,” she said. “It is our hope that praying together will lead to serving others together, as well as intensifying both our spiritual lives and our commitment to evangelization on campus.”
