EDUCATING LEADERS OF FAITH & CHARACTER
UST Named to Newman Guide for Second Time

The University of St. Thomas has been named as one of 21 top Catholic colleges and universities by the Cardinal Newman Society for the second time. The listing will be published in The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. This second edition of the Guide is published by The Cardinal Newman Society and is available online and in print.

The Guide is a unique resource for parents and students seeking a faithful Catholic education, features university profiles and several essays to help families better understand the search for a strong Catholic College.

The Guide is the culmination of more than four years of research and interviews. The colleges profiled are recommended for strong Catholic identity and cover a wide range of institutions in terms of history, size, location and academic focus.

Every college or program recommended in the Guide includes a complete profile that examines academics, governance, spiritual life, student activities and residence life. New additions to the edition’s profiles are a letter to families from each college president as well as information on financial aid packages. Among the key points on UST’s online profile are the University’s strong Catholic identity influenced by the Basilian Fathers, the core curriculum focused on theology and philosophy and Catholicism promoted through lecture series.

“The University of St. Thomas is honored to be named among the Catholic universities recommended by The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College for the second time,” said UST President Dr. Robert Ivany. “At St. Thomas, our graduates possess a vibrant spiritual faith, seek to learn more about themselves and the world around them, and have the courage to live their lives in accordance with their faith.

“We are proud that our core curriculum provides each student with the ability to think critically and communicate effectively with a world view that is formed by the Catholic intellectual tradition. We are blessed with a faculty that is dedicated to our students and their development as ethical leaders and successful professionals,” Ivany said.
The online version of the college profiles include additional campus pictures and videos, open house and other event details, as well as a form to request admissions or financial aid information directly from the college.

“When we published the original Newman Guide in 2007, we found that families were eagerly searching for help in identifying Catholic colleges that truly embrace their Catholic mission in an facets of campus life,” said Patrick J. Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society and one of the editors of the second edition of the Guide.

Earlier this year, UST was also recognized as among the 21 most affordable and faithful Catholic colleges and universities in the United States in a report published by The Center for the Study of Catholic Higher Education. The study on college affordability shows that on average the colleges recommended in The Newman Guide are more affordable than both other Catholic colleges and other private colleges.
