Accounting Faculty

MSA Curriculum Requirements

36 credit hours, excluding proficiency courses, as outlined below:

  • 30 credit hours of core courses
  • 6 credit hours of elective courses

MSA Proficiency Courses

Students will be advised about the required proficiency courses prior to taking core courses. Upon review of an applicant’s transcript, some or all proficiency courses may be waived based on previous study.

CPA Candidates

The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) requires that students wanting to sit for the CPA exam in the state of Texas meet the following educational requirements:

  1. An earned undergraduate degree
  2. At least 150 hours of college credits
  3. 30 hours of TSBPA-approved advanced accounting courses
  4. 24 hours of non-accounting business courses
        Students without undergraduate business degrees must take additional business courses to meet this requirement
  5. TSBPA-approved ethics course (3 hours) – ACCT 5399 meets this requirement
  6. TSBPA-approved Research and Analysis  in Accounting course (2 hours) – ACCT 5331 meets this requirement
  7. TSBPA-approved Business or Accounting Communications course (2 hours) – MGMT 3320 meets this requirement, or students can take both ACCT 5333 and ACCT 5366 to meet this requirement
