Aug 23, 2016  Dissertation Explores Thomas Aquinas and ‘Being’
Brian Kemple publicly defended his dissertation, Brian Kemple publicly defended his dissertation on Aug. 26 before the University community and his dissertation board. It was accepted by the Center for Thomistic Studies, and in May he will be the 28th recipient of a doctorate in philosophy from the University of St. Thomas.

May 05, 2016  Doctoral Dissertation Examines Communities for the Best Life
John MaciasJohn Macias, doctoral candidate in the University of St. Thomas Center for Thomistic Studies, will publically defend his dissertation at 9:30 a.m. on May 9 in Sullivan Hall. His dissertation on the philosophy of Thomistic philosopher Alasdair Macintyre asks what type of political community MacIntyre believes will bring human beings to the best and most flourishing life.

Oct 16, 2015  Aquinas Medals Awarded to Sommers and Haldane
Dr. Mary Catherine Sommers and Dr. John Haldane were inducted into the Order of St. Thomas on Sept. 24 in conjunction with the 37th annual Aquinas Lecture Series at the University of St. Thomas.

Sep 17, 2015  Hittinger Named Member of Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas
Dr. John Hittinger with Bishop Marcelo Sánchez SorondoDr. John Hittinger, professor of philosophy at the University of St. Thomas, received a letter signed by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican secretary of state, naming him an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas in May.

Mar 12, 2015  Thomistic Studies Graduate Student Earns Maritain Award
Francisco Plaza, a student from the University of St. Thomas Center for Thomistic Studies, was awarded the American Maritain Association Graduate Student Award at an annual conference held in San Francisco, Feb. 26–28. At least 50 people attended the conference.

Dec 11, 2014  UST, University of Cambridge Post-Doctorate Defends Dissertation
Daniel De Haan defended his doctoral dissertation on Dec. 5 in Sullivan Hall at the University of St. Thomas. De Haan’s doctoral dissertation is titled, "Necessary Existence and the Doctrine of Being in Avicenna's Metaphysics of the Healing: On the Function of the Fundamental Scientific First Principles of Metaphysics."

Jul 10, 2014  Thomistic Studies Graduates 25th Doctoral Candidate
Sister Anne Frances Ai Le, O.P., graduated as the 25th recipient of a doctorate in philosophy from the University of St. Thomas Center for Thomistic Studies as she succussfully defended her dissertation on May 9.

May 13, 2014  De Haan Blends Philosophy, Neuroscience in Cambridge Post-Doc
Daniel De HaanDoctoral candidate Daniel De Haan will apply the philosophical study of the human person to cognitive neuroscience, especially Alzheimer’s research, as part of a prestigious post-doctoral position beginning in the fall. He will study philosophy, theology and neuroscience at the School of Divinity at the University of Cambridge in England.

Feb 26, 2014  Olver Defends Aquinas’ ‘Love of Others’ in Dissertation
Since 1908 philosophers have been puzzling over the “problem of love in Thomas Aquinas.” The problem lies in Aquinas’ thought that happiness is the reason we do all that we do. That is, loving others is really for our own sake. Yet, he still claims we can love others for their own sake.
