UST Student Delegation Meets Taiwan’s President
To meet with a nation’s president is a great honor. This is an honor 14 students from the University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies experienced when they met with Taiwan's president, Mr. Ma Ying-jeou on Jan. 9 in recognition of the successful educational and cultural exchanges between UST and Taiwan. The UST students were led by the Center director, Dr. Hans Stockton, an East Asia expert and long-time Taiwan specialist who has led such delegations since 2007 as part of a course he teaches on contemporary Taiwan.  

SEP Launches Crowd Funding Platform
The University of St. Thomas Social Entrepreneurship Program is working to empower the ostracized by providing an opportunity for them to become involved in food and cloth production, and they are doing it in a novel way — crowd funding.

FirstGen Grad to Teach for America in DetroitForging one's own path in life is no walk in the park. It requires commitment, perseverance and self-awareness. Jenny Treviño was the first in her family to go to college, will be the first to graduate with a degree in international studies and was selected for the Teach for America program. Soon to be placed in Detroit, Mich., Treviño accepted the job offer with a definitive “bring it on.”

International Studies Graduate Joins Peace Corps in Ghana, Africa
International Studies Graduate Joins Peace Corps in Ghana, AfricaSuzanne Pasztor, a 2006 International Studies graduate of the University of St. Thomas, is embarking on an adventure with the Peace Corps where she will work to reduce widespread poverty in Ghana, Africa by helping local entrepreneurs improve their business practices.

International Studies Grad Channels Compassion Into Action
At UST, Hiba Haroon, an international studies 2011 graduate, learned to look at the world through new eyes. Participating in the MicroCredit Program presented Haroon with opportunities to put her passion to help others into action.

Foreign Service Spouses Graduate Together
Jodi Mahardi, vice consul for economic and protocol affairs at the Indonesian Consulate in Houston, and his wife, Chiara Sari, will complete their Master in Liberal Arts degrees with concentrations in international studies and graduate together in May.

International Studies prepares students for careers in international business, law, politics and public service.
