|Students Attend Harvard Social Enterprise Conference |
Freshmen students Elena Petre and Alison Solis represented the UST Social Entrepreneurship Program at the 13th annual Harvard Social Enterprise Conference in Boston, Mass. in February, one of the world’s premiere social enterprise summits recognized by Forbes, the World Economic Forum and the Clinton Global Initiative.
|International Development Student Accepts Leadership in Action Award |
Sophomore international development major Sheila George accepted Leadership Houston’s “Leadership in Action Award” on behalf of the World Affairs Council Houston, during a luncheon on March 7. She designed the WACH’s Global Houston website that won the International category.
|Mosaics of Faith Conference to Examine the Czech Experience |
The University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies Department will host the fourth annual Mosaics of Faith Conference: The Czech Experience Concert from Feb. 28-29 on the UST campus, with a panel discussion on 7 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 29 in Ahern Room, Crooker Center.
|Stockton Lectures at Taiwan’s Wenzao Ursuline College |
Dr. Hans Stockton, director and chair of the University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies, traveled to Kaohsiung, Taiwan from Oct. 31 – Nov. 5 as the ICUSTA exchange lecturer to Wenzao Ursuline College of Foreign Languages. Stockton was received by the Department of International Affairs’ chair, Dr. YuJane Chen, and her faculty colleagues.

During summer 2011, University of St. Thomas students Washington Massaquoi and Rakel Berg successfully completed a highly competitive placement program with the United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program (UNISSP) through Seton Hall University.

|Volunteers To Sell Free-Trade International Crafts |
Former UST employee Lisa Emmite Baker, a volunteer with the nonprofit organization Eternal Threads, will return to campus to sell free trade items hand-crafted by women in developing countries on August 30.

Representatives from six universities and five countries will convene at the 2011 U-6 Forum on University of St. Thomas campus from Oct. 12 to 14.

Dr. Rogelio Garcia-Contreras, assistant professor of International Studies and director of the UST Social Entrepreneurship Program, presented a seminar on social and economic development and poverty alleviation for government officials at El Centro Fox in Mexico on August 5 and 6.

The late Dr. Gustavo Wensjoe, former director of the University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies, was posthumously honored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru at a reception on June 2.
