Once again, the William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas was named one of the top Irish Studies programs in North America by Irish Central, an online newspaper affiliated with the Irish America magazine and the Irish Voice newspaper.

Dec 03, 2013  Catholics and Methodists Support Peace at Irish Gala
People of Catholic, Methodist and other faiths collaborated to promote peace and reconciliation, the mission of the University of St. Thomas William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies, during its annual Irish Gala on Nov. 22 at The Houstonian Hotel. Celebrating the Center’s 10th anniversary, the gala honored Rev. and Mrs. Harold Good, members of the international community from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who have been instrumental in building and maintaining peace around the world. Rev. Good is a former president of the Methodist Church in Ireland.

Image: Irish Studies students in IrelandNearly 20 years ago the Provisional Irish Republican Army signed a ceasefire agreement, turning the tide in a history marked with conflict and violence. Since then, Northern Ireland has made great strides in establishing peace and bringing reconciliation in the divided island of Ireland.

Horan, a jolly man with an infectious, hardy laugh, will be marching in his 50th and final St. Patrick’s Day Parade with the Erin Go Braugh Society of America contingent at noon on March 16 in downtown Houston.

The William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston is the only Irish Studies academic program in the Southwest. The Center serves as a focal point for the study and appreciation of Irish and Northern Irish history, literature, politics, law, language, music, art, drama, culture and society.
