Exploration Drives MLA Studentís International Studies

The Master in Liberal Arts that Jay Decker earned in December 2012 widens his career choices. It’s the reason he was awarded a new contract in the Middle East teaching English to oil and gas engineers in Saudi Arabia. History Teacher Chews Through MLA Degree

While teaching high school full-time, John Gillespie earned his Master in Liberal Arts with a concentration in history in May 2013. He did it the way one would eat an elephant—slowly and one bite at a time. He attributes his surprising appetite to the exceptional flavor of the UST experience. International Studentís UST Takeaways No Fairytale

Vita Busyra staked her claim as a writer early. A fictional love story she penned at the age of 16 was published in Indonesia's most popular teen magazine. Success fed her fire to continue and, ultimately, saw her performing the role of editor-in-chief at the University of St. Thomas' Thoroughfare magazine as the international student worked toward her master's degree in liberal arts with a concentration in communications. The 36-credit-hour Master in Liberal Arts (MLA) program at the University of St. Thomas is a customizable and flexible degree plan, which appeals to a diverse group of students who seek professional advancement, admission into doctoral programs or personal enrichment. We offer conveniently scheduled classes and the choice of 21 different academic concentrations. Enhance your degree through study abroad and internship opportunities.

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited school with a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Official transcripts
  • Two confidential letters of recommendation
  • Essay describing applicant’s academic goals and interests

  • Standardized test scores are not required
  • Interview with MLA Program Director

Degree Requirements

The program requires the completion of 36 credit hours with an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including 9 credit hours of graduate seminars designed for the MLA program, 9 credit hours of electives (6 of which can be used towards a thesis or project) and 18–21 credit hours in chosen area of concentration.
