|The School of Education encourages students to become actively involved in student organizations including:
Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE)
ATPE works to get young men and women interested in the teaching profession. It supports its members by providing them with opportunities to develop personally and professionally and by teaching them the history, ethics and programs of the organized teaching profession.
Bilingual Educators Student Organization (BESO)
BESO's main objective is to share information and resources among students and faculty members interested or involved in bilingual/bi-cultural education. It also serves as a resource for its members by creating professional development opportunities for them. The group has a strong tie to the School of Education on campus.
Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) was started to encourage the sharing of scientifically proven information on exceptional child education. Students in this organization are part of the state and national CEC. They receive several professional journals with their membership. Dr. Liz Borreca is the faculty advisor for CEC.
Kappa Delta Pi National Education Honor Society (KDP)
This is an international honor society in education, represented on campus by Pi Lambda Chapter. Membership is by invitation only to outstanding senior-level and graduate students in education. The society recognizes excellence in education through a program of speakers, scholarships and awards.
