GRACE studentsThe GRACE pillar of Professional Development supports our efforts toward perfecting the work God has given us to teach in Catholic schools. There are many ways this pillar is strengthened, but the primary way is through our studies at the University of St. Thomas.

The University offers three GRACE programs each of which includes taking classes throughout the summer and school year toward a Master in Education degree. UST provides the GRACE students a scholarship for all 36 hours of coursework. The three programs are as follows:

GRACE
The traditional GRACE program includes coursework specific to:

  • Catholic education
  • Classroom management
  • Multicultural populations
  • Variability and assessment
  • Curriculum and instruction
  • Reading
  • Action Research (Including an action research project)

GRACE Leadership
The GRACE program specific to leadership is an option for students that have already attained initial certification as teachers. The coursework includes the following topics:

  • Catholic education
  • Principalship
  • Supervision
  • School law
  • Cultural foundations of education
  • Administrative internship (2 semesters)
  • Action Research (Including an action research project)

GRACE Literacy
The GRACE program specific to literacy is an option for students that have already attained initial certification as teachers. The coursework includes the following topics:

  • Catholic education
  • Foundations of reading instruction
  • Reading instruction in content areas
  • Literacy coaching
  • Remediation of reading difficulties
  • Cultural foundations of education
  • Action Research (Including an action research project)
