In addition to merit scholarships, the Monaghan Transfer Scholarship and the Celt Transfer Award are reserved for incoming transfer students. The University awards more than $11.6 million in grants and scholarships each year, and 80 percent of our students receive some type of scholarship or financial aid. UST makes transferring to receive a private education both affordable and accessible.

University Merit Scholarships for Transfer Students
Academically strong transfer students may qualify for renewable, merit scholarships based on your college GPA.
Completing the application for admission and being accepted to the University automatically makes you eligible for scholarship consideration. Early applications to the University are encouraged, as awarding begins November 1. If awarded a University Scholarship, the Office of Admissions will notify you in writing. Your scholarship will also appear on your award letter from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Monaghan Transfer Scholarship
All UST transfer students entering in the fall semester will be automatically considered for the Monaghan Transfer Scholarship, if they meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Completed at least 16 transferable credit hours from a U.S. college/university.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 and higher.
Monaghan Transfer Scholarship awards range from $7,500 to $10,000 per academic year and begin in the fall semester. Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
Spring Applicants: November 1
Fall Applicants: April 15
Celt Transfer Award
Transfer students entering in the fall semester are eligible to receive a Celt Transfer Award, valued at $4,000 per year, if their transfer GPA is between 2.50-2.99. Recipients of the Celt Transfer Award must maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship
Transfer students entering in the fall semester who are PTK members will be eligible for an additional $4,000 scholarship. PTK Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters. For more information, please visit the PTK scholarships webpage.
UST has been awarded an S-STEM grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This federal grant provides scholarships in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Scholarship applicants should be majoring in a STEM discipline* and demonstrate financial need. The following are STEM subjects offered at UST:
- Cooperative engineering program
- Environmental science
* Students interested in any pre-health program are not eligible.
Approximately 25 scholarships with an average award amount of $4,000 will be given to talented transfer students each year over the five-year funding period. This award will not impact previously awarded scholarships but may alter the qualifying amount for student loans.
Scholarship recipients will be evaluated each semester for eligibility. All students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain a STEM major or be enrolled in required STEM courses. Any change in GPA or major status will result in the loss of the STEM scholarship.
- Must have completed between 12 and 60 transferable hours with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Must have completed all attempted STEM courses with a grade of C or higher.
- Must declare a STEM major.
Flexible criteria such as professionalism, maturity, motivation, ability to manage time and communication skills of the applicant will be taken into consideration.
How to Apply for a S-STEM Scholarship
- Complete S-STEM Application.
- Have two letters of recommendation from instructors sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. At least one letter must be from a science or mathematics instructor.
- Provide a personal statement commenting on your career goals, education plan and the reason you are majoring in a STEM discipline (maximum length 400 words).
- Fill out the FAFSA form (fafsa.ed.gov). UST Code 003654.
- Submit Copy of Transcripts: The Office of Admissions can submit copies upon request. Ask your admissions counselor for more information.
