Director of Transfer Admissions and Veteran Services

Phillip ButcherPhillip Butcher is the Director of Transfer Admissions and Veteran Services. Butcher is a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing from the University of Houston in 2009. Butcher came to UST from the marketing department at engineering firm Smith Seckman Reid.

After successfully running the Veteran Services program, Butcher was also named Director of Transfer Admissions. Possessing the perspective of both a transfer and veteran student, he works hard to ensure the admissions process is simple and accessible to all students.

“I remember all of the confusion I had when I separated from the military and began attending school —the head-in-the-clouds feeling of not always knowing what to do next or where to go. I want to make sure that other veterans have more information so that they can take full advantage of their benefits.”

Trai Hicks

Transfer Admissions Counselor

Lone Star College and in state transfers

If you’re ready to make the transition from community college to a four-year degree at St. Thomas, or just looking to transfer from another school, I can help you decide if St. Thomas is the right place for you.  I enjoy helping people from different backgrounds and experiences discover UST’s excellent education and prepare for the future.

I have a bachelor’s in political science and public administration from Grambling State University in Louisiana, but I’ve found a family atmosphere at St. Thomas. It’s small and there are fewer distractions for focusing on school. You’re able to have that personal relationship with professors, so you don’t feel like a number.

I want to support you in pursuing your degree, so don’t be afraid to ask me questions about your next steps to attend St. Thomas.
