Financial Aid May be Adjusted to Reflect Changes in Economy
Have your students or their families been affected by the current economic downturn?
Additional financial aid may be available to students whose families have experienced hardships over the last year. Though the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) allocates financial aid based on income from the previous year, these figures may not adequately reflect a student’s current financial situation.

To help students gain access to the millions of dollars of available federal aid, the Department of Education has created a system of “professional judgment.” Professional judgment allows the college or university financial aid office to make adjustments to a family’s FAFSA data based on unusual circumstances such as extreme medical bills, loss of employment, or death of a wage earner.

Direct your students to complete the FAFSA. Applicants to the University of St. Thomas can receive assistance from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to be considered for additional financial aid eligibility.
