Campus Safety, Communication Receive Top Priority
In today’s society, safety is a top priority on every college campus. The University of St. Thomas Campus Security Office implements numerous safety measures to ensure
the protection of all students, faculty and staff in our urban location. Uniformed security officers are visible on campus 24 hours a day, and they are also available to escort a student to and from parking and residence halls upon request. Additionally, each officer is certified in CPR, first aid, and the use of automated external defibrillators.

There are more than 20 emergency phones located around campus. Security cameras are installed in major campus buildings, the parking garage and Guinan Residence Hall, which is equipped with key card entry and monitored by a 24-hour front desk attendant.

Should an emergency occur, families can be assured that students are within minutes of world-class medical facilities at the Texas Medical Center. The Constables of Harris County’s Precinct One work in conjunction with St. Thomas to patrol the campus.

The University also has detailed emergency response procedures and deploys the Emergency Notification System where messages are immediately sent by e-mail, phone and text message to the entire University community.

This system was successfully utilized during the 10-day Hurricane Ike University closure. Security, facilities, information technology, custodial services and many other employees worked long hours for the duration of the week. The campus community collaborated to ensure on-campus residents found local accommodations. Students, faculty, staff and parents received frequent updates through ENS messages.
