Identification Cards
UST ID : You will need your ID card for several purposes on campus. Learn on how to obtain your UST ID.
Texas ID/Driver’s License: You may apply for a Texas ID by visiting the closest Department of Public Safety office. You can visit the DPS website at http://www.txdps.state.tx.us to find the closest location to where you live.
What to have when you apply:
In order to apply for a Texas ID or driver’s license, you will have to bring the following items to the Department of Public Safety:
- Stamped I-20
- Passport
- Visa
- I-94
As of Sept. 2011, F and J visa holders are no longer required to submit a letter of good standing with their documents.

Social Security Number Per federal regulations, F and J visa holders are required to have a job in order to apply for a Social Security number. This means that you must have an on-campus job or authorized work via CPT/OPT.
When you have obtained a job, you will have to bring the following documents with you:
- Letter of Employment/Offer letter from employer
- Letter from the OISSS
- Stamped UST I-20
- Passport
- Visa
- I-94
