Fitness Classes


Fitness class in Jerabeck Activity and Athletic CenterFitness classes are offered to all students, faculty, staff and registered alumni/community members free of charge.  All classes are taught by certified fitness instructors and are open to all skill levels. Classes meet in the second floor dance room in Jerabeck.
Fitness Class Schedule:

Gentle Yoga

Mondays 12:15-1:15 PM
(January 27—April 21)
Instructor: Robin

Gentle Yoga is a class that involves mind-body connection that helps to develop focus, balance, strength and flexibility. This class is designed to provide instructions on yoga methods, breathing and stretching.  Gentle yoga is ideal for students looking to begin their practice or for those concerned with injury.

Pilates Barre

Mondays 5:30-6:30 PM
(January 27—April 21)
Instructor: Sarah

This dance-based workout focuses primarily on core and leg strength, but includes exercises for your entire body.  This class utilizes the ballet barre to perform small, isometric movements that target specific areas such as abs, hips, seats, and arms. Each strength segment is followed by a stretching segment to create long, lean muscle without bulk. Dancers and non dancers alike will be challenged as they use the barre and mat to launch a full blown attack on the muscles.

It’s an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party.  Zumba Fitness® is the only Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music and contagious steps to form a fitness-party that is downright addictive.  This work-out is a non-stop cardio dance party that is sure to burn some serious calories.

Swing Dance

Tuesdays 7:00-8:00 PM
(January 21—April 22)
Instructor: Adrienne & Alan

Come enjoy dancing to the sounds of the 1940's as well as contemporary music! This is a beginner swing class that will explore the basic steps of east coast swing, variations of the Charleston, and the Lindy Hop. No experience or partner necessary.  Just bring your dance shoes and get ready to swing!

Argentine Tango

Tuesdays 8:00-9:15 PM
(January 21—April 22)
Instructor: Elizabeth

Argentine Tango is a social dance and a musical genre that originated in Argentina and moved on to Uruguay.  Tango is essentially walking with a partner and the music.  Musicality, dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed of tango, is an extremely important element of dancing tango.  You will learn how to see and feel the music in this class.


Wednesdays 12:15-1:15 PM
(January 22—April 23)
Instructor: Donna

This Yoga class is a more vigorous approach to yoga characterized by the synchronization of poses to the breath. This class will incorporate various styles of yoga such as vinyasa and hatha to provide more of a challenge to participants. With each pose, the body grows stronger and more toned to function better on a daily basis.

Power Pump

Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 PM
(January 22—April 23)
Instructor: Sophia

This strength and conditioning class works all major muscle groups, sculpting, toning and strengthening your entire body.  Exercises like squats, lunges, presses, lifts and curls will strengthen and tone your entire body faster than your average weight lifting routine.

Dance Fit & Sculpt

Thursdays 5:30-6:30 PM
(January 23—April 24)
Instructor: Shannon

Dance Fit & Sculpt is a fun way to burn calories by combining dance and exercise moves set to the hits on the radio that make you want to get up and dance.  This class will also incorporate strength training to get a total body workout. It is the ultimate cardiovascular challenge with a unique blend of intense intervals, and strength/endurance training with weighted body bars, hand weights and your own body weight.

Salsa Dance

Thursdays 6:45-7:45 PM
(January 23—April 24)
Instructor: Leslie

Salsa is a dance with Cuban origins. This class will teach both beginner and intermediate dancers how to change weight by stepping, while the upper body remains level.  Participants will learn how to move the hips, arms and shoulders along with music in a new way.
