Trent Herman
Head Coach

August will mark more than the beginning of the fall semester for the University of St. Thomas Lady Celts Volleyball team. It will be the beginning of a year under brand new tutelage from newly hired Volleyball Head Coach Trent Herman.

The Garden City, Kan., native comes to the University of St. Thomas after spending the last two years as the Technical Director and Coach at the Absolute Volleyball Academy in League City, Texas where his 18’s team won the Club National Championship.  He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in history.

Before coaching at the Absolute Volleyball Academy, Herman spent five years as an assistant coach at Rice University where he helped nurture some student athletes who have ascended to the NCAA Tournament the past two years, spent four years as an assistant coach and Director of Recruiting at Iowa State University and two years as an assistant coach at Southwest State University.


 
Wan Yun
Assistant Coach

Wan Yun enters his second season as the assistant coach of the UST women’s volleyball team where he assisted the Lady Celts. The team reached unprecedented heights, making it to the NAIA National Championship tournament. Wan began his coaching career at Incarnate Word Academy in Houston as an assistant coach and eventually head coach of the girl’s volleyball team. During his tenure, the Falcon volleyball team made two appearances in the state playoffs. Wan has also held coaching positions with several club volleyball teams. Wan is currently director and volleyball coordinator for Lamar Volleyball Select located at City of Richmond/Rosenberg/Sugar Land.

Wan started Lamar Volleyball Select in 2008 with parents and players that wanted to continue playing year around. Prior to arriving at UST, Wan served as director and Head coach for Fort Bend YMCA Volleyball Club.  Other coaching experiences are Head coach at Family Christian Academy, Incarnate Word Academy, Houston Insider Club, and assistant women's volleyball coach at the Blinn College.

A native of Houston, Texas Wan is a graduate of North Shore High School. He received her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Stephen F Austin in 1991 and earned a Master of education degree from SFA. Level I certification from the USA Volleyball's Coaching Accreditation Program and has played the sport for more than 20 years. Wan and his wife, Katie, reside in the Medical Center with their daughters Pauline and Taylor.


 
Jose Ordonez
Assistant Coach

Jose is a second year MBA student with concentration in finance for the Cameron School of Business program. He comes from the city of San Pedro Sula in Honduras were he obtained his B.A. in Business Management. He played the sport for 15 years as an OH competing in several Latin-American tournaments and obtained a MVP award in the Guatemalan national tournament in 1998. This is first experience as a volleyball coach and his second year as an assistant coach for our volleyball team.
