UST Announces 2008 Recruiting Class
Coach Aaron Champenoy adds strength and depth to the young program with 17 new additions to the 2008 Celt Roster. Champenoy was able to pick up Morton Ranch Standout Asayat Camarena as a mid year transfer from Northeastern State University in January as well as Daniel Quijano, a current UST student. Other transfers include: another ’07 Morton Ranch graduate, Joel Frias, who transfer from Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Shane Rojas from cross town rival HBU, Adan Montelongo, Otto Valdez, Michael Enriquez, Cesar Hernandez, Ceasar Rodriguez, Alfonso Diaz and Martin Jimenez all from Texas Junior Colleges. Incoming freshman include Jorge Ibarra, John Ruff, Jack Brett, Luis Bustos, Irving Escobedo, and Oscar Ortiz.

Transfers with Collegiate Athletic Experience
Asayat Camarena(Northeastern State Univ-Oklahoma) will add an immediate impact the Celt defensive back line. He has great technical ability and is a very solid defender who also has the ability to get forward and add to the attack.
Joel Frias(OLLU-Texas) will add some much needed pace to the team and is able to play multiple positions for the team. Joel will look to play in the midfield both I the central and wing spots. We expect Joel to bring something special to the team and be a factor in our success. He has electric pace and good technique, a combo that could cause problems for our opponents.
Shane Rojas(HBU-Texas) comes to us from Trinidad. Shane is a strong presence for us on the field. Great in the tackle and has a wonderful left foot. He will add some maturity for us and leads by example with a great work ethic.
Martin Jimenez(Tyler CC) Martin is an exceptional talent on wing. His service from the wing is very good. Martin is a complete player, strong, technical and has a mind for the game.

Incoming Freshman
Jorge Ibarra(Strake Jesuit Prep-Houston) was a 1st Team All-District, Defensive MVP his senior year at Strake as the starting Goalkeeper. Jorge is a big strong presence in the box. He has good technique and great hands. Jorge will add some much needed depth and competition to the position.
John Ruff(Aquinas High School in La Crosse, WI) will also add some depth to the Goalkeeper position. John is a big athletic player who has incredible work ethic and will continue to develop quickly.
Jack Brett(Manchester, England) will be another great addition to our defensive unit. Jack is a big presence and a big personality in the middle of the field. He will organize and lead from the middle of the field. Very strong on the tackle and dominant in the air, he will be a great addition for the Celts.
Luis Bustos(Langham Creek HS-Houston) will redshirt this year for the Celts. Luis is a talented player with the ability to play many roles on the team. He shows maturity on the field and possesses great ability with the ball. He will be a great player for the program.
Irving Escobedo(South Houston HS-Houston) is a superb local talent. Irving has a wide range of passing and is a great distributer of the ball. His vision and understanding of the game is second to none. Irving suffered a break of his fifth metatarsal and will possibly be out for the season. Regardless when he is back in the squad, he will be an immediate impact player.
Oscar Ortiz(Tomball HS) will be another redshirt for the Celts. Oscar comes from the very successful Houstonians FC. He is a very talented player that will look to help the team in training this year while developing into a player that can impact next years team. Oscar is very solid technically and has a good understanding of the game.
Coach Champenoy’s comments: “I am very excited about his class of players. It is a whole new environment on the training pitch. We have added a lot of talent to the squad. This will create a much more competitive atmosphere in training. The competitive environment will make everyone better and keep the work ethic at its highest throughout the season. I know many of these players will impact the team early and often.”
