The University of St. Thomas Sport Clubs Association provides physical enrichment opportunities for University of St. Thomas students through team and individual competition on a range of levels.  We are committed to upholding the university’s mission and promoting its core values of goodness, discipline, knowledge, and community in the context of student-led club sports.  The Sport Clubs Association provides structure, guidance, and continuity for the individual sport clubs, as well as a bond between the clubs.

 
Baseball Club

Baseball ClubBeginning this year the Baseball team will compete in the Houston College Club Conference.  Games will begin in late September. Replacing graduated captain, Gabriel Castillo is junior communications major, Paul Conlon. He says, “I am excited about the level of competition we will face as well as the new uniforms that will visually reflect the legacy of school’s teams of the 50’s and 60’s. Additionally we’re just so thankful to have batting cages and a pitching machine to train with on campus.” The team is has a 24 game schedule spanning the academic year. Cycling Club
New to Sport Clubs Associationfor the 2006-2007 is the UST Cycling Club! This clubs goal is to promote a safe and enjoyable bicycle-riding scene at UST. Incorporating bike clinics, group rides, and competition this club is looking for members who want to motivate each other in the quest for physical fitness.. Fencing Club
The Fencing Club is a coed team of fencers from beginners to the competitive level. They compete in several tournaments at the state level throughout the year, and are privileged to host the Junior Olympic Qualifying Tournament this December. Over the summer Karl Schroder (Senior and Assistant Coach) competed in the Summer National Championships in Atlanta, GA where he finished 193 out of 224 in Division 2 Men’s Foil and 93rd out of 211 in Division 3 Men’s Foil.  The fencing team practices on Fridays from 2-5pm in Jerabeck. No experience is required and all equipment is provided.  For more information contact fencing@stthom.edu.
 
Martial Arts Club

The Martial Arts Club (MAC) offers classes and seminars in self-defense and crime prevention, thereby creating a safer and more secure environment. Also, it promotes a better understanding of the history and styles of martial arts. Classes offered include Ju Jitsu (M/W/F 3-4:45pm, Tu/Th 7-9:30pm) Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Muay Tha (Tu/Th 8:15-9:15am) as well as Tae Kwon Do (Tu/Th 5:30-6:45). Men’s Basketball
One of the newest clubs to St. Thomas is Men’s Basketball, which is entering its 2nd year with games beginning in October. If you are interested please contact basketball@stthom.edu.
 
Rugby Football Club
The UST Rugby Football Club  is the oldest sport club on campus, and since its creating it has been a dynamic piece to the St. Thomas puzzle.  They compete in the Texas Rugby Union Collegiate Division II, facing schools from all over the state. Senior and President, Bobby McAuliffe says, “With new coaching this year, The UST Rugby Club is excited about the new season which is looking very promising.” Rugby practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm at the Hackett Athletic Complex. Women’s Soccer Club
“Finishing last season in 3rd place has only motivated us to work harder this year,” says Senior, Women’s Soccer Club member Jennifer Monroy. Women’s Club Soccer is looking forward to a season full of hard work and hopefully big payoffs. They will be playing against other local Universities in a newly established league in Houston, the Houston Area Collegiate Soccer League, with the winner competing in the NIRSA Regional Tournament at Texas State University in San Marcos . The Women’s Club team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm at the Hackett Athletics Complex and plays games on Sundays at 11am. For more information please email womenssoccer@stthom.edu.
