UST Sport Clubs Association

SCA Logo The University of St. Thomas Sport Clubs Association provides physical enrichment opportunities for University of St. Thomas students through team and individual competition on a range of levels.  We are committed to upholding the university’s mission and promoting its core values of goodness, discipline, knowledge, and community in the context of student-led club sports.  The Sport Clubs Association provides structure, guidance, and continuity for the individual sport clubs, as well as a bond between the clubs.

 
Baseball Club

Baseball ClubBaseball games will begin in late September. A former captain says, “I am excited about the level of competition we will face as well as the new uniforms that will visually reflect the legacy of school’s teams of the 50’s and 60’s. Additionally we’re just so thankful to have batting cages and a pitching machine to train with on campus.” The team is has a multiple game schedule spanning the academic year. Fencing Club
The Fencing Club is a coed team of fencers whose skills range from beginners to the competitive level. They compete in several tournaments throughout the year. The fencing team practices on Wednesdays from 7:30-9pm and Fridays from 2:30-5pm upstairs in Jerabeck. No experience is required and all beginner equipment is provided.  For more information contact fencing@stthom.edu.

 
Martial Arts Club

The Martial Arts Club (MAC) offers classes and seminars in self- defense and crime prevention, thereby creating a safer and more secure environment. Also, it promotes a better understanding of the history and styles of martial arts. Classes are offered in traditional Japanese Ju-jitsu (M 8-10pm, W 7:30-8:30pm, F 5:30 - 7:30pm, Sat 8-10am ). All styles and experience levels are welcome.

Rugby Football Club
The UST Rugby Football Club is the oldest sport on campus, and since its beginning has been a dynamic piece to the St. Thomas puzzle.  They compete in the Texas Rugby Union Men's Division III, facing rugby clubs from all over the state. The club has made recent appearances in the playoff tournament. The Rugby Football Club practices on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-9pm at the Hackett Athletic Complex. Women’s Soccer Club
The Women’s Soccer Club is looking forward to a season full of hard work and hopefully big payoffs. They will be playing in a league against other local universities.  The Women’s Soccer Club team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm at the Hackett Athletics Complex. Cheerleading Club
The UST Cheerleading Club welcomes all students who have an interest or desire to participate in the sport of cheerleading and dance. It is the mission and purpose of UST Cheer to promote and uphold school spirit, develop good sportsmanship by example, and to support good relations in the community and between teams and squads during sporting events. Cheer practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Activity Period (12:30 - 2:00 PM). UST Cheer welcomes all experience and skill levels. Tennis Club
The Tennis Club competes in many tournaments outside of the Houston area each semester.  This club is for anyone who enjoys playing tennis at a competitive level.  To compete in the tournaments, experience is required.  Beginners are welcome to join the club and learn from the more experienced members. Surfing Club
The Surfing Club (USTSC) provides opportunities for collegiate interaction and competition through beach activities in Galveston, Surfside and all along the Texas coast. USTSC sponsors a team of men and women surfers who compete in Texas Gulf Surfing Association events. Competitors in TGSA may qualify for the Texas State Surfing Championships, which is a regional qualifying event for the United States Amateur Surfing Championships and the U. S. Team Trials. If you are a serious competitor interested in advancing to the highest level of amateur surfing and beyond, this is your first step. If you are just interested in having fun and seeing how you do competing with others in your age group, this is a good first step. As surfers and beach fans, the club is a strong advocate for beach access and protection of the coastal environment. The club is committed to participate at least twice each year in coastal clean-up campaigns and other volunteer environmental activities. Contact the Surf Club at surf@stthom.edu.
 
Ultimate Frisbee Club
The Ultimate Frisbee Club has significantly grown over the past year.  The club is currently searching for other teams to compete against at a more competitive level.  The club often holds pickup games on the Campus Life Mall.  Anyone is welcome to join regardless of experience.
