Eddie Espineli - Honors Graduate of 2005
Born and raised in Spring, Texas, Eddie heard from family and friends that St. Thomas was the perfect school to get a well-rounded education. “Since I am Catholic, I was attracted to the fact that I could get more in touch with who I am and where I come from at a Catholic institution. Based on its track record, I also knew that St. Thomas would provide me with the tools to attain my dream of becoming a doctor.”
Eddie found out about the Honors Program during the application process and “was immediately intrigued by its rich and diverse curriculum. It provided something different from the normal classes and challenged us to think deeper about the big picture of life.”
After graduating from UST last year with a BA in Biology, Eddie was accepted into the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He’s currently in his second year there. As a medical student, spare time is pretty rare, but Eddie loves “to spend days where nothing is planned and the days unfold without me knowing what will occur next.”
If Eddie’s face looks familiar, it’s probably because his picture used to be on one of those St. Thomas billboards seen gracing our Houston highways. “If you don’t remember mine, it said, ‘I will find a cure for _____.’ At least now I can say that I’ve had my fifteen minutes of fame.”
Eddie had a few words to pass on to other Honors students. “My time in the Honors Program was very special and I feel that it really helped me to grow as a person. If you do get accepted into the Honors Program and stick with it all four years, I guarantee you that you will be given the tools to live a good life.” |
