Gregory McLaughlin - Honors Freshman
Born and raised in Houston, this Honors freshman recently graduated cum laude from Westside High School. An active member of Westside’s Marching/Concert Band, Greg has played the euphonium for the last couple of years. He also participated in Westside Magnet Program’s Integrated Technology Strand and was a member of the National Honor Society and Quizbowl. A National Merit Commended Scholar and AP Scholar with honors, Greg has been awarded the UST President’s Scholarship for his undergraduate years at UST.
Having grown up Catholic, Greg has been aware of the presence of the University of St. Thomas in Houston for many years. In fact, his mother is currently a graduate student at St. Mary’s Seminary, working on her MA in Theological Studies. “I want a strong Catholic education,” says Greg, “and I value the opportunity for fellowship and making connections available on a campus of this size.” Greg also accepted the invitation to join the Honors Program because he was interested in the program’s “strong foundation in classical literature and liberal arts.”
Before starting his first year at UST in the fall, Greg will attend Steubenville, the national Catholic youth conference, held this year in Springfield, Missouri. In his spare time, Greg likes to work with computers, read, volunteer, and travel with his family. |
