Tomas Diaz - Honors Freshman
Born and raised in Houston, Tomas attended Strake Jesuit for high school. He was very involved with the theater there, either acting in the plays or working with lights, managing ticket sales and ushering.
When he’s not busy with his theater activities, Tomas enjoys writing, playing video games and reading. “I have a great enjoyment of reading up on trivial facts, and will surf Wikipedia for some of this,” admitted Tomas, “though I don’t recommend using it for actual research.”
An aspiring Creative Writer, Tomas wants to major in English at UST and is entertaining the idea of going back to teach English at Strake after college graduation.
So how did Tomas come to find out about St. Thomas? Well, with his father being a UST alumnus, Tomas was quite familiar with our school. He decided to enroll “because of UST’s smaller community and how it is more geared towards liberal arts.” Tomas was one of four incoming freshmen to receive the V.J. Guinan Presidential Scholarship, which covers full tuition during his undergraduate years.
After being accepted to St. Thomas, Tomas was invited to interview for the Honors Program. “I have always enjoyed pushing myself and my ideas,” said Tomas, “and this program seemed to be a great way to do so.”
Interesting facts about Tomas? He’s been wheelchair-bound since the age of seven, though that has not stopped him from pursuing his interests. In 1995, he was the National Goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and showed up on the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. |
