HONORS
Christina Ayad - Honors Junior, Communications
Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Christina moved to the United States with her family in 1999, when she was 12 years-old. Knowing little English, Christina started middle school about a week after her family came to the US. She found it challenging at first, but with time, was able to adjust to the new life.

Christina went to high school at Clements, and then followed her sister, Martina, to the University of St. Thomas. After finding out she was eligible for the Honors Program, Christina interviewed and is now in her third year in the program.

“I really like it because I have learned so much,” she said. “I just feel like I have truly broadened my horizons through all the readings. I enjoy that it includes many disciplines into one class; it makes me a well-rounded person.”

Christina is currently majoring in Communication with minors in Chemistry and Philosophy. As a pre-med student, Communications is an interesting choice of major for Christina. “I took Public Speaking as a freshman and I loved it so much,” she explained. “Communications is one of those things that no matter what you do in life, it is still an extremely important skill. I would love to combine my two passions one day… medicine and talking.”

Along with her Honor course-load, Christina has also taken on the tasks of being President of SIM (Students Interested in Medicine) and writing for the Cauldron. When not hard at work tutoring high school students or doing schoolwork or extracurricular activities, Christina likes to spend time with the family, play sports (especially volleyball), shopping with her mother and sister, and dancing (belly dancing, salsa, meringue, you name it).

Planning to graduate a semester early from UST, Christina hopes to spend some time traveling in Europe and back to Egypt before starting medical school. Her specialty? Cardiology. “I did an internship with a cardiologist in high school and I loved it; I also love working with and being around kids, so maybe a pediatric cardiologist.”
