Kimberly Buckert - Honors Junior, Psychology
Born in Victoria, TX, Kimberly has lived all over the Houston area, but mostly in Baytown. She graduated from Ross Sterling High School and became interested in joining the student community at St. Thomas.
After hearing about UST from a friend, Kimberly did further research into St. Thomas. “I was enticed by the Honors Program and Augustine Hall,” she said. “I felt that they both offered a unique and challenging college experience that would allow me to not only grow intellectually but in spirituality and maturity as well.”
When she received an invitation to interview with the Honors Program, she gave it a try and is now a junior in the program. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far,” said Kimberly. “The variety of readings presents a perspective representative of the liberal arts education we receive at St. Thomas. The great thing about the Honors Program is that you learn not only about history, literature, theology, philosophy, etc., but you also learn how to use that knowledge in whatever field you may be entering.”
Kimberly also got involved, and has stayed involved, with the Augustine Hall program, first as a resident her freshman year, then as a peer mentor on Residence Life her sophomore year; this year, she will be a Resident Assistant.
Along with the Honors Program, Kimberly is majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Philosophy. Her interest in psychology started in high school after taking an AP Psychology elective her senior year. “I had an amazing teacher and really learned a lot about the field in general,” she said. “I knew that I wanted to be in a helping profession and my AP Psychology class helped guide me in the right direction.” Kimberly is currently serving as Secretary of Psi Chi (Psychology Honor Society).
Though her many responsibilities keep her quite busy, in any time she has free, Kimberly enjoys hanging out with friends, visiting her family and going to the movies.
After finishing her degree at UST, she hopes to attend graduate school and earn either a Master’s or PhD in Psychology. She also plans on doing counseling of some sort, either in a school setting, as part of a counseling group, or in private practice. |
