Stephanie Traconis - Honors Sophomore, Political Science
Born and raised in Houston, Stephanie attended E.L. Furr High School and found out about St. Thomas from her high school guidance counselor.
After she heard about the Honors Program, Stephanie interviewed, was accepted and is now in her second year. “I love it. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
“I love how the program always has two professors instructing a single class. They usually have very different beliefs (and therefore different opinions) about most topics. It’s great because you get all different perspectives.” What she enjoys most about the classes is that “You’re not just fed one idea; you’re given the opportunity to form your own opinions based on separate arguments offered by the professors.”
Along with the Honors Program, Stephanie is completing a major in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. After UST, she’s looking into graduate school, and then traveling. In the meantime, in her spare time, she enjoys “going to the Angelika theater, writing essays for classes, visiting Half-Price Books and drinking coffee.”
Some interesting facts about Stephanie? “I can go to a Mexican restaurant and order my entire meal in Spanish. I know how to run license plates through a database (my dad is a private investigator.) I know formal dining etiquette. I can do a backbend. I can navigate graveyards at night while dodging Security. I actually enjoy writing essays for class.”
Stephanie is serving as an Orientation leader this, so freshmen, be sure to keep an eye out for her during your orientation days. |
